One of the core elements of the technique is known as inhibition. This is not suppression but simply a moment of conscious and deliberate stillness or a ‘neutral gear’ which brings about respite from habitual reaction or over-reaction.
Within this place of stillness the following qualities have room to arise:
- spaciousness
- being in the present moment
- inner and outer awareness
- reprieve from anxiety
- emerging clarity
- choice
- appropriate action
All of these are of great relevance for many other conditions such as:
- chronic illness or disability
- trauma/shock
- stress
- chronic pain
